Selina Anne Bell Perkins

June 17, 1946- January 22, 2021

 

Selina Anne Bell Perkins, 74, of Columbia, died Friday, January 22, 2021. Born June 17, 1946 in Lancaster, SC, she was a daughter of the late John U. Bell, Jr. and Martha Anne Dowling Bell.

She graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in education and taught for many years in the Lancaster County School System. She retired from Kershaw Elementary School in 2003.

Anne was devoted to her family. She loved going to Hilton Head and was very knowledgeable about the history of the island. Anne looked forward to her annual summer trip with her grandchildren every year. She was an avid Gamecock and cheered them on whether she was at Williams Brice Stadium or watching from her home. Anne loved spending time with her friends as well. She loved her trips to the beach and vacations with her friends, Connie and Hazel Vaughn. Anne also enjoyed spending time at Surfside Beach with her good friends, Becky and Suzanne. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Anne is survived by her son, John Charles Bell Perkins (Emily) of Columbia; as well as two granddaughters, Taylor and Haylee Grace; sister-in-law, Gayle Bell of Blythewood and her nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Ulysse Bell, III.

A graveside service for Anne will be held at 2 o’clock, Saturday, January 30th, at Norway Cemetery, 5818 Norway Road, Norway, SC 29113. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.

Everyone is invited to attend but will be asked to abide by the state’s recommendations of wearing masks and social distancing to provide a safe environment for all.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Prisma Health Richland Hospital for the excellent care they provided Anne in her last few days.
